Color Palettes for Winter Weddings

Black and White. The high contrast look of a black and white wedding is also high style. It is an excellent color scheme for a New Year’s Eve wedding. The black tuxedos will look dashing on the men, and of course the bride will have a stunning white bridal gown. Look for bridal jewelry sets created with dramatic black and white gems, such as pearls in white and black. For the bridesmaid dresses, all black can be a bit severe, so choose ones that have a combination of black and white, such as black satin gowns with white cuffs at the neckline. Black and white damask is the ultimate in winter wedding chic. Use it for the invitations, the tablecloths, even as a wrapping paper for wedding favors. The wedding flowers can include unique white anemones with black centers. Tie them up with a black velvet ribbon for the perfect finishing touch.

Silver and Gold. Silver and gold are shimmering and elegant for a winter wedding. The two colors are low in contrast but high in elegance and sophisticated style. The bride can choose a wedding gown with intricate silver and gold metallic embroidered details. The motif from the bridal gown would be a fabulous design element for the wedding cake, piped in silver and gold frosting, naturally. For your bridesmaid dresses, choose one color or the other. A gorgeous way to use silver and gold in the wedding flowers is to use natural elements that are coated in metallic paint. Think of gold pears, silver leaves, even pinecones painted in your signature colors for a seasonal accent.

Red. Red is one of the most popular winter wedding colors. It ties in nicely with all of the various winter holidays. If your wedding is close to Thanksgiving, you can pair a russet red with burnt orange and bronze for an upscale harvest effect. Red is very popular for Christmastime weddings. Design a slightly more subtle nod to the season by pairing red with white and plenty of clear sparkle. Think about how stunning a bouquet of red roses with crystal accents looks against a white bridal gown, especially in combination with crystal bridal jewelry sets. Red roses in low footed silver vases are magnificent centerpieces for a winter wedding, whether it is around Christmas or Valentine’s Day.

Ice Blue and Silver. This is an excellent variation on the Winter Wonderland theme, and so easy to work with. The icy blue and silver can be used on everything from invitations to bridesmaid dresses to patterned table linens. You won’t find much in the way of ice blue flowers, so use white flowers with silver accents like painted leaves or tiny silver balls and wrap the stems in an ice blue satin ribbon. Gorgeous!
