Rain, Snow, and Other Wedding Weather Problems

You have planned the perfect wedding…only to have Mother Nature throw you a curve ball. Wedding weather is simply the luck of the draw, and whether your event will take place inside or outside, there is always a chance that inclement weather can cause issues for your wedding. These are some suggestions on how to handle rain, snow, and other wedding weather problems.

Couples planning outdoor weddings are certainly the most vulnerable to weather related trouble. Rain is typically the biggest culprit, though wind and even hurricanes can come into play. The number one thing for which you must plan is rain on your wedding day. This means either renting a tent with a floor to provide shelter for an outdoor wedding or having a backup location to which the entire event can be moved in case of rain. Keep in mind that if it is really pouring, you may also need to have sides on the tent, as well as plenty of golf umbrellas to help keep your guests dry as they dash from car to tent. It would not do for your grandmother to arrive at the reception in a soggy powder blue dress with rain dripping off of her pearl wedding jewelry!

Indoor weddings are fairly safe from the problems of rain and wind, though winter weddings can be affected by snowstorms. It is less that there will be trouble inside the venue and more that everyone from vendors to guests to even the bride and groom may have difficulty traveling to the site. It isĀ  a good idea to round up everyone you know with 4-wheel drive vehicles and recruit them to transport the principles to the wedding. It would be a shame if Aunt Sarah missed the ceremony, after all, but if the officiant does not make it, there will be no ceremony at all!

Ultimately, you cannot control nature. The best that a bride and groom can do is to have sensible plans in place and then try to keep a sense of humor if any inclement weather does crop up. Remember that when you walk down the aisle in your gorgeous wedding gown and bridal jewelry, all eyes will still be upon you, no matter what Mother Nature tries to throw at you. Most importantly of all, come rain or shine, you will be just as married at the end of the day.
